Goodbyes & Hellos

July 2, 2018

Hello KFZ fans! This is going to be a long post, but we have three BIG announcements to share.

Firstly, on a bittersweet note, KFZ co-organizer Chuck Clenney will be moving to Japan in August. Because he’s a total badass, he got a job teaching English on Amami Oshima, an island north of Okinawa. If I started to list the awesome things Chuck does on the daily, we’d be here all day. Just thinking of it literally makes me tired — bands, radio shows, art, poetry, outdoor adventures, journalism, travel, being a cat-dad — the list goes on.  While Chuck’s chill demeanor and can-do attitude will be very much missed, I am so incredibly happy for my friend and neighbor as he prepares for his next adventure in life!

Next up, we are very excited to announce KFZ’s partnership with local art gallery, publishing house and events space, Institute 193! We have been big fans of 193 since its inception, and their mission of “collaborating with artists, musicians, and writers to produce exhibitions, publications, and projects that document the cultural landscape of the modern South” is very much in line with ours. They have featured zines in many of their exhibitions, so we feel that this will be an excellent partnershipand we know they will bring amazing artists to our fest this year.

Which brings us to announcement #3. KFZ 2018 registration is now OPEN! While admission will always be 100% free, we are now asking for a non-refundable exhibitor fee of $5. This will go toward our space rental as well as the rental of tables and chairs, programs, posters, keynote speakers, website fees, and all the little things it takes to keep a zine fest running. While the minimum is $5, you are welcome to donate as much as you can afford, and we will most definitely put those funds to good use.

Thank you so much for being a supporter of KFZ and we can’t wait to see you on September 29.

Love, Michelle
